Now you can hide events and properties
Keep stale event and property names out of your dropdowns.
Mixpanel has long offered you the ability to hide events that you’ve decided are irrelevant or maybe just were typos from the very beginning. We’ve recently extended this functionality to let you also clean up the list of properties that you see when segmenting reports or creating custom events.
Say your application tracked an an event called “ate” with integer property called “tomatos”. Later you decided to fix the pluralization of this property name and renamed it “tomatoes”. Even though you stopped sending events with the “tomatos” property, you’d still see entries for both “tomatos” and “tomatoes” in the dropdown list of properties on your segmentation report. By marking the property name “tomatos” as hidden, you can keep it from showing up in this dropdown and any other dropdown that lists properties.
How to hide a property
To hide an event property, follow the steps below or read it in depth here:
- Open Lexicon by clicking “Data” in the left-side navigation.
- Select “Lexicon” from the drop down list.
- Click into “Event Properties”.
- Select one of more visible properties and click "Hide". A pop-up message will appear to confirm this action.
- To “unhide” a property name, just click the “x” mark on the right of the property name.
*Note: This will hide the property for every event.
Remember: Hiding is not forever
Don’t be afraid to change the hidden event and property settings as often as you like. We will still store all of the properties you send with events regardless of these settings, and changing them won’t alter the stored properties for all the events you’ve already sent. The hidden property and event lists only affect how data is displayed and you are free to “unhide” a property at any time and see all of your previously hidden data again.
When using this feature, our Live View report will still show all of the events and properties that are being sent regardless of what you’ve marked as hidden, so you’ll still be able to know exactly what data your app is sending to Mixpanel. Be aware that this mechanism does not hide properties of the same name that show up on your People reports.
